Hello

Welcome to the European Lubricating Grease Institute

The ELGI was established in May 1989 and is an independent, self-governing institute, financed solely by members. It is one of a group of scientific and technical institutes active in the field of tribology dealing with lubricating greases and associated products. The institute is involved in all aspects of this product group, particularly those concerning the technical, economic, ecological and legislative positions in Europe.

A number of working groups have been created to deal with important issues in the European grease market. Current topics include Railway Lubricants, Bio-based Greases, Fundamental Research, Food Industry Lubrication, Test Methods, Aerospace Greases, Education & Training and Grease & the Environment, Grease Shelf Life, REACH, Grease Cleanliness. Other groups are encouraged and the ELGI facilities are available for such activities.

+++ AGM 2010 Information +++

                       +++ 23rd ELGI AGM, Paris-France 30th April - 3rd May 2011 +++  Call for papers +++

Message to members, April 20, 2010, 08:00 CET:

Dear ELGI AGM Attendees

Due to the continuous uncertainty of air travel over Europe the ELGI board made the decision to postpone the AGM scheduled for April 2010 to October 2010 in Kiev.

The main reasons for this decision:

  • The ELGI staff is scheduled to fly on Wednesday 21st to Kiev. We have been advised that flights on this day will be cancelled. Even if flights return to normal within the coming hours, it would take a number of days to clear the backlog of stranded passengers first. We are not certain if flights will be on time and if they are able to handle the backlog.

  • The weather is another uncertainty. The skies could clear but could also deteriorate and airports might shut down again.  Currently all flights to and from Kiev and Western Europe are cancelled for Tuesday 20th.

  • Companies are now restricting employee travels too.

  • AGM equipment  cannot be delivered to Kiev also due to flight restrictions.

  • Another situation could arise where you could be stranded in Kiev.

  • As the safety of our members is a priority the board feels that postponing the event is the best course of action during this period.

  • We have confirmation from the Premier Palace Hotel in Kiev that no costs will be borne by individuals.

Date for the postponed meeting: October 23-26, 2010.

You will receive further notification on events.
